brian would sometimes sing this melody to noah. with so many american traditional songs on the album, he also wanted something of the jewish tradition he is part of to be on the album. we thought this would make for both a transcendent and simple ending where you can just hear two people being themselves and spontaneously harmonizing with each other.

about

We recorded this album as new parents in 2020, while we were living in a farmhouse in Virginia and hunkering down through a long quarantine. It was sort of like the longest parental leave ever, strange, scary, and beautiful too. Like many artists, we started making things at home. We recorded during the baby’s naps, or with Sandy or Sue (his grandma or great-aunt, also featured as guest singers) rocking him in the next room.

Several of the songs are drawn from Elizabeth’s family, favorites that used to lull her to sleep. Two were written by Brian, and two by Elizabeth; we found parenthood a very powerful prompt for lullaby-composing. One is a “cradle song” from the Republic of Georgia.
